woah that's awesome! yeah they seem pretty awesome to me, i don't know what people are always bitching about. Tom must lurk on the forums because he's made a few comments to me before in relation to stuff i've said on there, which freaks me out a tiny bit but oh well.

Scott you turned down tix to Frank black? Wow. He didn't even get put on our list of gigs to shoot so I didn't even get the chance to try! Haven't gotten th gigs email for this week yet, that is one part I find kinda hard, everything is always so last minute. Like when I applied for Van She on the tuesday and got the email saying I can shoot it at 3pm Friday and the gig was at 8pm that night. I like to plan a little more than that.

Yeah. Turned it down cos i’m shooting tomorrow night, and i’ll be wrecked enough without another mid week gig would have gone if I was shooting though. Tried for Conner aswell, only cos Jimmy was going. I’m yet to receive a confirmation email from FL.. it would be annoying the last minute shit though. Especially as they are organised so far in advance with promoters. I emailed BDO people today doubt i’d get a pass, but worth a try

he had the shutter speed down to something like 1.6, but there's obviously a technique to making them look cool and getting the lights to blur like that - any ideas guys?? I read about this somewhere, you just need to have the flash firing while you have a really slow shutterspeed. So when the flash goes off it captures the people in the foreground clearly, while the rest of the image is all light swirly! I'm thinking maybe I should join FasterLouder - i'd love to take photos at gigs regularly. I think I'd be a bit scared about pushing to the front though and annoying the punters.

Didn’t know you could do that. Might ahve to try it now And join the club.. i don’t think anyone likes that part of shooting But if you get there during the warm up bands, (which FL want) you’ll get a decent position to shoot from.

it takes a bit of practice, but stick it onto manual mode...turn the flash on and make the shutter longer than normal - say 1 second. You'll get more effect if you don't keep the camera steady after the flash! Hope this helps.

I emailed Tom about a contact at Scorpion Entertainment, but we use the same dude who is ignoring me which = poo anyway, was for DragonForce and Haunted gigs, he said DF has been requested a lot, but Haunted I can probably have.. haunted in November 11. I didn’t know you could request gigs before they go out in the list! Pretty crazy! I’d always wondered why some big gigs were reviewer only..

underoath photos are up. flickr.com/photos/boelsen/sets/72157607715280109/ wasnt a big fan of the lighting there. got a lot of shit photos. But thet seems to be the advantage of taking 450.. which was about 200 less than usual for me. But thats probably why i only got 18 i was happy with.

You guys were talking earlier about using flash, isnt that a total no-no, i always get told (in email its in BOLD or at the door i am told again) NO FLASH with NO exceptions.

i think this is just for 'social'snaps. as yeah, everyone says no flash etc when shooting.

i never use a flash for the band, but i do for the social snaps. Scott - nice pics, i've only been to Billboard once but i thought it was a pretty nice venue. as for the EBC, i've had good and bad nights there. that was where i did the shitty Grafton Primary ones, but when i did The Boat People & Regurgitator it was pretty good. you usually take 600+ photos??? holy crap dude that's heaps!

yeah.. i try to enforce the fact that i am really am amature compared to you guys I use auto focus, and each time i think 'that'll be a good shot' i take about 6 shots to make sure focus is good and lighting rocks thats why i end up with so many but yesterday was a bitch. i had to go fully manual rather than aperture priority, and set the shutter speed AND manual focus! go me cant be arsed looking through them did they have any front lighting for those gigs bec? cos they had 2 last night.. but only used them to light the stage between songs and before after the set! grrr

psh, you're not an amature and there's NO WAY i'm an expert. as i've said before, taking photos of jewellery and handbags isn't exactly the same as concerts, haha. yeah there was front lighting at Regurgitator & Boat People, and we had the same deal with GP where the only time they used any other lights was at the end of the show.
i'm looking forward to the gig list this week, i'm seeing Juke Kartel on friday but don't want to go alone, so hopefully i can get a pass to that. it's at POW again...

Oh, sorry I must have missed the social snaps part!
I take a shit load of photos as well Scott, I am always of the theory that you cant really see what its like on that little screen so keep shooting! I have my camera on that hi-speed shooting. So usually for every shot i try to grab i end up with a series of about 6 or 7 shots, like you said you do. Originally I had only a 1GB card but after shooting the Van She gig and filling that up really quickly I went out and bought a 4GB one, which i filled up just before the end of my 3 songs of the main band at the next gig i went to. I was shooting on RAW but still i didnt really expect to fill 4GB's worth. I would always over shoot rather than just hope that the shots I had were fine, because as has been the case with the gigs i have done, there is usually only a few that end up being usable!

hey Kerrie what kind of photoshop stuff do you with your RAW pics? i don't really use that format because i don't know much about it, i've only occasionally done it when i'm shooting products at work for posters etc, but that's only to get the size, other than that i don't know much else to do.
i got accepted as a contributor to The Dwarf, no confirmation email or anything though, i just started getting the emails for gigs. i applied for about four just now, they had a list of stuff for the next month which was pretty good. not that much on there for a month worth of gigs though so i'm not sure if more will come later. anyway hopefully i should be able to get something out of them =)

I shoot for a metal website called metal obsession, so i wouldn’t have been able to shoot them i wanted something to do for nye, so i emailed pyramid people about 3 review and a photo pass.. but the chick said they ‘checked out metal obsession, and you are indeed obsessed with metal’ (and turned us down) and they even had.. 3 close to metal bands there.. so no chance of ladytron that being said.. i have no idea who ladytron are just that josh (toolgasm) came down to Melbourne to see them. Cogs gig tonight at the QBH has been postponed, so my weekend will be a little easier

‘checked out metal obsession, and you are indeed obsessed with metal’ hahaha i got two passes with The Dwarf! i think they might choose people based on a 'first in best dressed' basis, because i got the confirmation only a couple of hours after i applied yesterday. so i'm in for Mammal @ Ruby's Lounge and Kate Miller Heidke @ Prince Bandroom in november, it'll be a bit of a contrast haha. Mammal might be a bad choice because i know that venue has poor lighting, but it's near me as opposed to in the city. i don't even like that Kate Miller girl but she seemed like she'd be interesting to shoot.
