WELL WELL WELL
a month of sleep deprivation on a more grand scale than the olympics (and i was a wreck after athens... i could not get enough) and how i love it so...
I had 4 hours sleep last night, watched the germany/ cost rica game, then had to get up at 6 (caught the end of the poland eq. game) to go to work...
tonight is a massive game, england v paraguay, and i have to get up early again for work.... at least i get to sleep in on monday.....
man im so glad its on.... Just wait til the aussies play on monday!!!!
so discuss all football related things here...
Im sure boelson would have been entertained by last nights game, some great goals... i dont know how germany go when they come against a real attacking threat... But yeah some top notch goals.

yeah that is awesome...
last nights clashes were less good... i fell asleep at half time of the england match, only to wake up 15 minuntes into the sweeden /TNT game and decided bed was a suitable place... I woke up at 6 to catch the last bit of a pretty decent match between Argentina and Ivory Coast, then went to work at 7.30.
a sleep in tomorrow which is good.

I have not slept much at all the last couple o' nights, its been a great start to the Cup.
Tommorow night is going to be awesome. Hearing the anthem at the world cup is going to such an emmotional experience. Hopefully the lads can come away with all three points, progression to the next round is almost dependant on it.

Don't get me wrong. I love sport and big sporting events... but the blatant bandwagon jumping is ridiculous surrounding the World Cup! I can understand people who are genuine soccer fans getting excited about watching the games, but the average joe in the street getting all emotional and patriotic just because Australia is playing is fucking ridiculous. I love this country, but I just hate it when people get behind soemthing they know nothing about.
There's no soccer being viewed in our house.

I'm a genuine fan (Go Reds) but the qualification can be nothing but awesome for the game in Australia - look at all the media and hype that they never got which now surrounds them - If a lot of people only take an interest just because they FINALLY made the world cup, i'll go with it, because it's healthy for the game.
Anyways - England, got lucky with an own goal, 1-0? Well, just enough to keep the tabloids off their backs.
I'm optimistic Australia can beat Japan, but we have to be realistic. Can't wait!
Netherlands are 1-0 up on Serbia-Montenegro in the 85th

Yeah it is healthy for the game IF they remain interested for longer than 3 weeks. But yeah i can see how people can find it annoying. Also the amount of coverage it get could be annoying to people who dont care. As many of you know i love it.
Well i must say that i feel pretty bad for the Ivory Coast or S&M, i mean Serbia and Montenagro, because they both played very decently, and have a chance of progressing to the next stage in any other group. Anyhow the Dutch /S&M game was great, i didnt catch any of the mexico game, but my alarm woke me up to watch Portugal. I love the way the Portuguese /Spainish play soccer, and Portugal are my second team in the cup (mainly cause of my EPL team, Tottenham Hotspur, who had 2 portuguese players in the past two years. Helder postiga and my favourite player until he left Pedro Mendes) but they didnt really look capable of greatness as they couldnt finish the game off, but credit should go to angola, after the first 15 minutes they proved to be alot better than i imagined.
WELL TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT.... and today is the day i have to study for exams which i completely forgot about.

Heh, my brother has been known to say "Everybody's a soccer fan every 4 years."
I'm not watching the world cup just because I don't like soccer. My dad is a full blooded German though, so I have to hear about it at least.

WOW WOW WOW i thought we played pretty well last night, few holes in the midfield in the first half but they were changed in the second half. I thought we were unlucky to go one down from the run of play (honestly i thought it was a free kick, but that being said i though schwazer was in a terrible position, and didnt really try to get the ball and was playing for a free kick. Keepers should not be doing that shit.) Anyhow it was a great result, i had a great night at the pub, everyone went nuts, it was just great.... now i have to study for my 3 exams, and sadly the world cup must take the back seat for the rest of the weerk

Fuck! I fell asleep little bit after the Japan "goal". Been up since 6am so wasn't too sure i would last, but how bout it - Wasn't expecting a 3-1 scoreline, fantastic.
Wait for everyone to get on the "Aussie" spirit angle with 3 goals in the last 20 mins, hehe.
Got a real chance to advance now, lets just hope Brazil put a few past Croatia.

Lets just hope Brazil school Croatia.
Having said that, we have to make sure we don't lose 27-nil to the South Americans also!

yeah... id be happy to lose by 2 goals at the most... that would put our difference back on zero... But in the fair dinkum department, we could get a point out of that game (who would have thought we could have scored a draw against the netherlands 2 weeks ago, or even come from behind to win 3-1..) confidence is gonna be sky high, and Hiddink is a genius.
what i hope is that cahill and moore dont get yellows. Grella could be replaced by skoko and i dont think aloisi will get another.

i'm a few days behind but anyway...what a result! i wouldnt say i'm a massive soccer fan ( QPR for all you english soccer fans)but few sporting contests have got me as excited as that. 82 minutes of injustice erased in a flash. I was getting pretty sleepy at about 80 min. needless to say i was happy i pushed through to the end. The game is still being shown on a continuous loop in rundle mall here in adelaide ;D Guus is a legend. Refreshing to see a coach show his emotions and get into the game, as opposed to the majority of professional coaches out there in all sports who act and sound like robots. Sport needs more personalities.

Well, the anticipation is over and we come away with a 2-0 loss...
Was i the only one upset with the officiating? not to blame that for the losss, but it seemed a little unbalanced at times.
A 1-0 loss would have been ok but then "Fred" of all people gets the easiest put back of his life in - As if Kewell's miss wasn't heartbreaking enough
Still, we matched it with them for a decent portion of the game, they are the best...very confident we can get a point from Crotia and make it to the round of 16 0- who would have though a couple of years ago?

yeah i was a little upset over the second goal, not the way we conceeded it, just one of those things...
BUT a great result in the other match... We can lose to croats 1-0 and still qualify for the next round, so long as nippon dont beat brazil reserves 3-0...
I had my last exam this morning, on 3 hours sleep before the match, and 2 hours after the match.... Lucky the exam was really really easy, cause i felt like crap....

i take it back, we cant lose to the croats.... that puts them a point ahead of us... idiot...
Yeah about czechs or italy, if they turn up and play we could be in strife, but both teams have been known to choke. Plus there hasnt been anything conspiracy worthy fromthe italians yet.... look out.

let me tell ya, a 2-0 score line to the Brazlians is waaaayy to flattering for em. We were absolutly their match last night... I cant believe im actually dissapointed with a loss to Brazil, its a credit to how well Guss has the lads playing. the difference, was Adriano, taking the half chance he got ... just like the three or four we threw away... Hary Kewell should nail that open chance with his eye's closed, now it looks like he is in trouble for the Croatia game because he abused the Refferee after the match. Lucas Neil, Craig Moore, Tony Popovic (till he got injured) n Scotty Chipperfield played out of their skins at the back last night. it was a pleasure to watch them carving the samba kings up ... Which reminds me, how bad was Ronaldo. talk about a fall from grace. As for loads of people jumping on the bandwagon, i think its fantastic. its almost an honour when people that dont usually follow the great game ask questions about things like the yellow card/suspension system etc. Alot of people have found an appreciation for the game, purely cause they have had a reason to give it ago. sorry for the rant, ive had an average 3 hours sleep each night since last wednesday. Im sure a few of you are the same

Which reminds me, how bad was Ronaldo. talk about a fall from grace. Oh yeah, he did not look great, sans that set up for the first goal he was very ordinary (and the butt of many jokes from my mates during the match) Kewell has until around 4:30 today i think to "please explain - a 1 game suspension looms...

Ronaldo's footwork is still very sharp, a couple of times he made two or three defenders at the same time defenders look very ordinary. But, his body language was terrible, he looked like he didnt want to be there .... and then there is his work-rate....
Harry got off, which is a great relief. he shouldnt have gone up to the ref like that, but he had a point. the Brazilians where protected like they where wrapped up in cotton-wool.
