pretty enjoyable.. i can't believe they opened with a set-ender porcelina, that was pretty epic, took me back instantly 10-12 years to their mcis hordern show.... behold the nightmare was awesome, and i lost it at the opening notes of starla, can't believe they played that.. mayonaise was rad.. kinda lost me a bit with the 101 extra outro's on united states, put me to sleep a bit.. but cherub rock was sweet too.. all flowed pretty well..
whats the britney song? they play it over a sabbath cover or mashup don't they? and then it morphs into buffalo springfield? thats a strange one..
also i won't dispute sydney crowds are fucking whack, but normal sydney crowds aren't like that, that was a festival crowd, loads of bogans from the outer suburbs.. you know what you're in for when you get pat down before entry, and whiskey and bourbon and a sausage sizzle are on the menu..

Awesome show. Made it just in time for the start. The 8pm start caught a lot of people of guard. (Horden site said 8:30) I got there at about 7:50 and there were stacks of people still outside. Billy made a comment about all the late people. There were a few idiots in the crowd. Those slam dancers started up right next to me. Starla was fantastic there were stacks of people around me that didn't know it. Ifelt like yelling "Move to the back if you don't know the words!" Billy was being a tease when the came out for the encore. Played a few bars of the Doors' 'Break on through' then went on with some Banter for about 5 minutes with Jeff and Ginger joining in. Jimmy just wanted to play! Managed to score one of Billy's picks - Black with a "0" on it. Disapointed I didn't get to meet any other Ozphorians. I had my wrist band on but you all would have been inside by the time i got there. I had a look around after the show, but by the time I queued for the merch security were kicking everone out and I had to drive home (Still jet lagged from flight from London) Enjoy the V fest to those going (I've got football to play - soccer)

Wowwowwow!!! This is excellent, reading up on your stories. (I completely forgot Sydneys' show was last night!) How the hell did you get to talk to Billy, Josh??? How long before the show was it? Did you get there early & stalked him as he arrived??? Let me know, cos I want to do that in Adelaide! Top effort (luck) scoring the guitar pick, spacebugg. Photo thanks, or it didn't happen.

I'm from the western suburbs and I can tell you that a lot of the time the stereotype is unfortunately true. The other ones that can be bad are the surfy bogans from the coast, the idiots behind me were from the central coast, which is completely unsurprising. It is just so frustrating because you go to see a show, the band is in great form, but you can't enjoy it because of people who a)obviously aren't fans of the band b) have an IQ of about 50 and c)seem to be intent on making everyone around them pissed off. I don't understand why you would spend 100 bucks on a ticket if the only sp song you wanted to see was bwbw. It boggles the mind.

the crowd was shit in my opinion! lifeless and crap for the most part, wasn't until BWBW that they showed some life! and then there were the idiots trying a circle pit for a short period! at least everybody seemed to get rockin at the end with Cherub rock especially!

tbh the crowd was very very tame....a little pushing here and there but even when bullet and cherub rock played there wasnt anything massive. whatever pit got going it didnt even last that long

sydney crowds don't move unless its a bunch of fluro wavin mogans, pillin' in front of an electro act.. im too old to move for bands like i used to when i was 16.. i'll just enjoy it on the rim taking notes on fret positioning, and then hobble out and complain about my knees and back afterwards..

He signed my ticket and i told him i loved him and he said thankyou sort of strangely.. hope i didn't freak him out. Best night of my life.

So amazing..Im still reeling..all the classics, couldnt have asked for anything more except a few more quiet ones or acoustic thrown in coz Im assuming V is going to be the more well known stuff ?? and maybe the bogans would have cleared away from the front for a while the rants were great, and the britney lyrics packed a punch. so cool..so so so cool

The Peter Garrett rant...haha. =D Also, in case you saw me, i was a pretty short guy wearing a 'Used' shirt. Anyone?

Okay, I am going to be brutally honest about everything I 'experienced' last night (you may not like everything you read). I turned out with my friend who had barely heard a full SP song prior to the concert. I basically paid for his company (I was happy to do so). Here is a piece of advice- don't ever attend a concert with someone that has little or no interest in being there. He kept acting like a goon (I think he might have undiagnosed AD/HD). At one point, he gave Billy the finger when he glanced our way (not cool). Despite this disruptive behaviour, I was able to get him to sit still, and I did enjoy the show.
I can't say the setlist was unexpected because I knew they would go for a fairly routine one. However, I was surprised to see how intimate the arena was. I have to say the crowd did not really add to this atmosphere, it was more the size of the place than anything else but I don't think the blame should fall squarely on their shoulders. As a performer, Billy has to get the crowd into it from the word go. He failed to do that. It amazes me how bands constantly begin playing without introducing themselves to the crowd and establishing a connection from the beginning. This helps frame the mood for the night, shows off Billy's showmanship and takes the crowd along for the ride. The majority of the people were lackluster for a good hour of the show. I would also love to see someone play a request spontaneously just once (someone screamed out 'Silverfuck' and Billy said he wouldn't play that song even if the girl that was standing on someone's shoulders showed him her breasts).
The sound quality of the show was nothing to cheer about. The band sounded great and you could hear the instruments at full pelt but the vocals were a little drowned out and fairly distorted. Some fans wouldn't notice this because they come from the – live is better than recorded – mode of thought but you need to ask yourself, if I've never heard the song before can I make out the lyrics? The answer would have been a resounding no. Had I not heard the songs before, I would have had no clue what Billy was singing about.
I was glad to see a few Machina songs make the cut especially 'The Everlasting Gaze'. The highlight of the night was easily the succession of songs that started with 'The Everlasting Gaze' and culminated with 'United States'. It really was musical masturbation at its best. You would have been forgiven for thinking Billy was auditioning for a spot in The Mars Volta with the ending he performed to 'United States'. It was absolutely incredible (Request: can someone upload that whole song on Youtube?). I wish Smashing Pumpkins evolve their sound into something like that for the next record. The cacophony of noise sounded operatic to those that didn't dismiss it as pretentious crap. I lapped it up and didn't want it to end. I loved the dissonance (I hoped Billy would do the same thing forever). I loved the continuous winding nature of the live version of the song (at one stage I was convinced I would get my wish and it would turn into a 25 minute epic). Billy leaving the guitar on the stage and walking off would have been the perfect end. The encore which consisted of only one song was ridiculous. I hope they add at least 3 more songs on top of that for you guys and gals that will be seeing the rest of the tour. Overall, it was a good show that I would have certainly enjoyed more a year or two ago when my SP obsession was at its peak. I am sure all of you that are currently obsessed with the band, will love it. Thank you for reading. Enjoy.
PS- Ginger was a little coy and a lot hot. If I ever got to meet her, my pickup line would be - That's a big guitar for a little lady.

Ok, i just have to ge the bragging over first off, i was the 3rd person there, i got there at 7 am That was easily the fucking best concert EVER. The everlasting gaze isnt even close to my favourite song, but it was so powerfull last night, it was increadible. The full blown out version of united states was increadible, what did it clock in at? i estimated about 25 minutes. Nightmare would have to have been the highlight, that was wonderfull I was so close to getting a pick, but the guy next to me did haha, most people would have been pissed off about that, but i just gave him a high 5

Last night was hectic. Best night of my life so far i reckon. People were great. Show was great. Got to meet Billy after (!!!!!!!) I asked him about the single release songs and he said it isn't true, they will produce singles for the masses to keep them satisfied, but have heaps of songs going all the time for the bigger fans, and they'll keep providing what we want. He actually talked to me looking straight at me for a few minutes, i almost started crying i swear.
Crowd was a little bad, the girl that was standing behind me kept trying to steal my phone. i wasn't pleased. And guy you have to post that really good photo of billy with that great look on his face!
Can't wait for Adelaide to catch up with everyone and to see more SP.
xoxo

I thought the sound was really good. I had no dramas hearing the lyrics. As an ex- roadie and someone who has done a small amount of live sound engineering I have heard a lot worse. Sorry to disapoint but Billy announced Gingers engagment at the London gig I was at on Feb 16th

The sound was a mixed bag. At times the speakers seemed to distort under the load, at other times it was crisp and clear. The one thing that was consistent all night long was the drums. I can't praise Jimmy enough, he is such a huge part of their sound. As far as comparisons between the studio and on stage go there is no question regarding Zeitgeist...the live show wins by a mile. I think the production on Zeitgeist is horrible, and to me it just sucks the life out of the songs. But in a live setting they sound great! United States sounds monstrous (in a good way ), as does Superchrist. Tarantula, Come on lets go and Bring the Light all sounded great too. I'd like to hear more songs from the Zeitgeist era live because I find it difficult to enjoy them on the album.
