I'm from Melbourne and I also thought the Sydney crowd sucked. The band were great and the songs sounded fantastic, but the crowd's lack of excitement threw me a bit. Still had a great time, but I hope the Adelaide and Melbourne crowds are better. I think Dani sucked! I think it was brilliant that the crowd was mezmerized by the band and that there wasnt a butt-load of bogans hell bent on squashing the sh!t outta everyone yelling dumb-ass remarks like "Wheres James?" and generally acting like tools. I also think the "lack of excitement" as you put it was due to the inclusion of alot of their 'softer' and accoustic songs - and stuff that occasional fans wouldnt be familiar with - ie Crush, Starla, Superchrist etc. But then again - each to their own. You probably wouldve loved the V-Fest vibe

as far as i know most pumpkin fans are gentle, gentle people and they show their appreciation by standing still hypnotized by the music not by jumping around and flashing the devils horns. peace. i dont know, i'm a pretty big pumpkins fan, and i did plenty of jumping around and devil horning. as far as i'm concerned, if you are prepared to deal with the squish etc go up the front, if you dont want to, stand further back. then everyone can be happy. i chose squish for the hordern, and about the halfway point for v-fest.

Is squishing and moshing really appropriate for a band that has had 2 people die at their solo shows and been playing at festivals where several others have been seriously injured or killed?

Yeah i agree with foxy, sure do what you want to do but you have to have some consideration for the band. And i don't believe the very front is for jumping. You can jump around and stuff anywhere, i think the front should be for the people who really want to watch things up close.
@pirate love for us who met Billy we just hung around at the back of the Hordern after the show and he came out to say hi. It was great:)

Tragic Ether, Kudos on those awesome shots dude-to get such clear pics in that sort of environment is very difficult, I'm so saving some of those! I think the faster louder review was quite just-I didn't agree with it completely, but it was well thought out. I didn't even read the BDo forums...douchebags...I should nominate them for the "biggest douche in the universe" award.

Is squishing and moshing really appropriate for a band that has had 2 people die at their solo shows and been playing at festivals where several others have been seriously injured or killed? well, the band choose the format of the gigs that they play, so it would seem that they still think it appropriate. they haven't done a pearl jam and enforced seated only gigs. not for a second do i think that getting hurt is a reasonable expectation for a gig, and if people are sensible and fair that will not happen - but this is the way it is, if you want to be up the front, prepare to be squished and covered in the sweat of your fellow punters. my natural reaction to this music is like an explosion of energy. just look at billy, we'd probably all think it would suck if he stood still all gig wouldn't we?

I dunno. After Bernadette O'Brien was killed in the mosh Billy said that moshings time had come and gone didn't he? and yet 12 years later they still play gigs with a moshpit as the main viewing format. there is no problem with moshpits as long as they are kept safe, which in the majority of cases is done so with good security and a crowd not completely full of fuckheads. just like people swing to swing music, you rock to rock music. just keep it safe and look out for the people around you. everyone can have a good time.

Actually, I plan to swing dance to such hits as "Porcelina of How Deep Is The Ocean?", "It Had To Be X.Y.U", "Luna Leaps In", "Fly Me To The Moon Demo Tape", "A White Spyder and a Pink Carnation", "Fuck You (My Baby Just Cares For No One)" and other such wonderful tunes.

I dunno. After Bernadette O'Brien was killed in the mosh Billy said that moshings time had come and gone didn't he? crazy you know the fans name. and i doubt billy will do any signings at melbourne. there are no fenced off areas there, and the people would just crowd him. so it'll probably be a driving van up to door escape like at the palais theatre tfe shwo

Although most of the Hordern crowd was pretty mellow, there was a group of dickheads up front that started a 'death-pit' or so i think its called, during TEG...
By the way, has anyone got a proper recording of the show? I'd love to get a hold of one ... the sound techs up the back told me they recorded it for 'archival use' but i'm sure there's going to be a copy out there somewhere.

I've added some video's from the Hordern show and Billy talking to the crowd afterwards (when he was signing stuff) on to our youtube channel: This one is my personal fav ... because Vic asks him about Ozphoria and he says he knows about us already - awwww! The rest up here: www.youtube.com/user/ozphoria

Sarah, I don't even think I met you! If I did, I'm sorry - I met so many Ozphoria kids... I felt like some kind of internet foster mother.
I love the fact that all of the vids we've posted, in particular the 'Billy talks to fans' series, have popped up on Netphoria so very quickly. I don't mind - I think it's awesome that everyone is so keen for the video and soundbytes from the shows - but it's funny that a lot of people there keep saying that Ozphoria is 'unnecessary' but keep quoting, posting and gleaning info from us. I'm flattered.

I know this is getting off topic - but who says Ozphoria is unnecessary? Myspace has all sorts of local Pumpkins fan cells. I think our membership numbers is almost proof enough that we serve a purpose. And if you still think we dont - p!ss off and let us do our thing - it aint hurtig no one!!!
ps - Bree, I see you as my little internet foster sister. Im still older - I dont care how much more mature than me you are!
