yeah, getting to the front at festival hall is easy. ESPECIALLY if you have a female, you just put her at the front and then conga line it in. I'm going to buy Josh a wig!

I guess, no need to get him a dress, cos he's already got those? I really need to rush home from the airport & then get to the city to arrive early to have any chance of a decent possie up front.

random notes for anyone who hasn't been to Festival Hall before: • there's a merch booth both inside and outside. the outside one usually opens around 6:45-7pm. • the cloak room is outside and costs $5 (i think), i'm not sure if there's one inside • security generally pat downs guys pretty well but barely touch the girls • parking will probably cost you $6 for memory, maybe $8 if you're gonna be there all day • there's nowhere to buy food close by, you'd have to walk back to Spencer St station (only about 15 mins though), so bring food and water if you're waiting all day! there's also no toilets close by (to my knowledge). after the show there's alway some dude selling kebabs up the road, haha. • parking is behind FH and can only be reached from Adderley St > Rosslyn St. there's a street right next to FH that looks like you can go down but it's only one way (i made a HUGE mistake not realising that when going to see Placebo in 2004).
if anyone needs to dump their shit in my car at the show they're welcome. just don't ask me to do it 10 mins before the doors open!
that's all i can think of for now, hopefully it helps some people =)

Are you serious? There's food just out on Spencer St, not far at all. A few blocks won't kill you, and no reason to go all the way back to the Station! I've just started work around there (although I'm not there at the moment), and it's honestly not that far. There's pubs on Spencer St if you want a sit-down meal.
Secondly: Flagstaff station is probably closer, since it stops in the northwest of the city instead of the southwest. The train also gets there first if you're coming through the city loop. North Melbourne station also isn't drastically far, if you're coming from the west side of the city.

Yeah, also if you're prepared to hike another block over, there's some places on King St as well.
It's not like there's absolutely no food in the area at all whatsoever - I just haven't tried any of it.
There's a little place about half a km away which I've eaten at a couple of times when we first started work, and it's decent enough. There is a pub on the corner of Spencer and dananananananana Batman! St on the southeast side.
On Dudley and Spencer, there is the Watershed Car Wash and Café, I'm not sure if you can eat there without having a car washed... I suppose if you like the smell of soap, you could eat there.

Just to recap: the tickets say 7:30, that's when the band goes on and doors open about a half hour before, correct?

I know people will be sick of me saying this (as well as being sick of all the shit i've talked on the tour, hehe) but i think this is going to be the show to be at, the one to remember. I can't wait!

CAMERA/RECORDING POLICYFrom the venue: Cameras are permitted into the Venue for The Smashing Pumpkins, providing that they are not of professional quality and do not disrupt other patrons viewing. Festival Hall reserves the right to refuse entry of any cameras. Just out of interest, where did you find this info? In the general info on the Festival Hall website www.festivalhall.com.au/general.html, it says the following: No passouts, videos, cameras, alcohol, cans, bottles, recorders. lazers, studded belts or weapons. Patrons may be searched on entry. I was trying to find more detailed info about the Pumpkins show, but couldn't. Not sure if I want to take a camera yet or not. I might take a small backpack with stuff - so hopefully it won't be an issue. Hopefully they'll let people take bottled water in - I don't want to pay $5 for a bottle once I'm in there. Even when I saw Radiohead back in '98, bottles were like $3 back then! And they were only 300ml bottles or something too!!!! Here were some parking details I found on the site (not sure how helpful they are): Limited on street parking is available in the West Melbourne/ North Melbourne area. Telstra Dome, New Quay Docklands and 83 Batman Street paid car parks are also in close proximity to the hall.
Additional paid car parks are available but have restricted opening hours - 185 Rosslyn Street is open until 9pm on weekdays. 94 Batman Street until 11pm on weekdays and at the corner of Latrobe and Spencer Streets until 10pm every day.

Just had a look on my ticket, and I'm going in through door 5. I'm pretty happy about that, as it's right near the stage at the back of the venue - so it should be possible to get a good listening to the soundcheck from there - maybe even see the band before they go in!

Docklands precinct isn't "that" far away either, people, so if you're after food, drink or a pleasant, soothing stroll along the water, head that way...did I sell that or what? ;]

CAMERAS; I emailed festy admins, and the chick there told me my SLR probably wont make it in (I tried the "I'm 17, not a pro!" card, but no) but she said 7mp digital camera would be fine. I'm going to print the email anyway. She also said camers can still be prohibited and it's $2 to put them in the cloak room. Cameras have to be non-disruptive, with an atatched lens. Grrr, I'm in the kiddie section and zoomless, I wont be in the way!! At least we can have cameras, I guess.

can someone do me a favour and fwd the camera policy response email to me? my email is nodoubt_tragickingdom@hotmail.com
i've still skeptical about whether or not i'll be able to use mine, even if i show the email to the person at the door that doesn't stop security from up the front of the show trying to get me to ditch it. some girls got their camera taken away at a show i was at and they were just taking a pic of themselves for myspace, the band weren't even playing.

Also, the people who emailed the venue never heard anything back about if audio recording is allowed, right?

woot! the melbourne show! not counting ozphorians, i know 20 + people going to this show and that alone makes me giddy with excitement. no more faceless strangers in the mosh pit!
my tickets are for gate 6 tomorrow - is anyone else going in through that door? none of my melb mates are coming down before 6ish so i'm hoping some of the ozphoria peeps will be close by at this one.
p.s. i've had a rad time meeting everyone thus far. sorry for being so unsocial after gigs.. kind of contemplative each time, despite the hyperactive jumping about after syd v-fest. cheers guys!
