sweet! what time are you heading down? i wanted to get some sort of rainbow garb for this gig to mix it up against the black. that said, i'm too lazy to get up and show before the gig to sort out anything other than the regular black or monochromatic attire i've had going on thus far. damn it.

i think people who bought their tickets early are at door 6. one of which is me and the camcorder is kinda the size of a big point and shoot camera. i dont really want him to bring it in and get it taken off him though, so might try and get an ok before the gig about it. what time are people gonna get in line? i'll probably aim for the suual 1/2 oclock

We just found out about this: www.winnet.com.au/news.php?art_id=444752WAIL TRUCK CRASH MEANWHILE, A FORTY-SEVEN YEAR OLD BALLARAT MAN HAS SUSTAINED SERIOUS HEAD AND NECK INJURIES AFTER HIS TRUCK CRASHED NEAR HORSHAM EARLY THIS MORNING... The sole occupant of the truck was on his way to Melbourne to deliver sound and light equipment for a Smashing Pumpkins rock concert tomorrow evening, when his rig rolled at Wail, on the Western Highway, at around six-thirty a-m. He was taken to the Wimmera-Base hospital where he remains in a stable condition. Most of the equipment was strewn onto the road, beyond repair. ----------------------------------- This was the guy that Vic was talking to yesterday. ... I hope he is ok ... and on a lesser note, I hope the show can still go on.

Kerrie and I were chatting up this guy yesterday in Adelaide, Kerrie was trying to get his All Access pass. He told us about how many trucks and how certain trucks go to certain cities. He was heading back home to Ballarat (where my boyf's family are from so we bonded on that). I hope he pulls through, he seems like a top bloke.
Worried about how this will affect the show. From the sound of the article it seems like they lost lights/sound equipment. Hope this doesn't mean guitars and what not. I know all this stuff is replaceable, but what a hassle for the band. Not to mention I'm sure they're worried about the driver.
I'm going to call Festival Hall first thing in the morning to see if this will affect the show, stay tuned for updates.

Ouch, that's shit. Poor guy...
Linky no worky.
I'm not sure who's providing production, but if it's Johnston Audio or McLean Audio they should be able to get a spare system from somewhere... if it's not one of those two, hopefully they will crosshire it back to Johnston or McLean.
Hopefully.
Fuck it, our JBL system in at the Grand Hyatt isn't being used tomorrow, they can come and fucking borrow that if they have to!!!

oh with the link, I had to choose my location as 'Ballarat' and then copy and paste the link again .... then it worked. But thats why I posted the text. I so hope he pulls through, he was so so nice by the sounds of it.
Im sure they'll be able to put something else together, with other V Fest gear, its just whether its their guitars and other instruments.

I doubt it was instruments - from what I can work out, he's a Melbourne based AV tech, not a guitar tech or other - SP would probably fly out their own guitar/bass/drum techs, since it's not a job you can get any random person to do, you would have to be able to trust that your guitars are in the correct tunings and you're being handed the right ones at the right times, etc.
My bet is the instruments are safely in another truck or plane somewhere. What has probably been lost is all stuff that could be hired elsewhere - speakers, lights, mixers, truss etc. The only thing here that's not replaceable is the guy's life - I'm glad to see that he's in a stable condition, but I always wondered what they mean by 'stable'?
They probably won't use the V Fest PA. They'd be touring two PA's and setting one up for V Fest during tomorrow, and then setting up Festival Hall... well, today you would think, except for this crash. Note the time: 0630. He would've been on his way to a 0900 setup, I would say.

I just called Festival Hall and they said it wasn't SP's equipment that was damaged and the show will be going on as planned.
See all you guys down there.

It.... wasn't.... SP's equipment..... that was damaged?
So then why:
The sole occupant of the truck was on his way to Melbourne to deliver sound and light equipment for a Smashing Pumpkins rock concert
<snip>
Most of the equipment was strewn onto the road, beyond repair.

I'm taking it as either a) the article got it wrong and it was other bands stuff from V Fest, or b) it was hired equipment that has been easy to replace.
Either way, the show is going on as planned.

I think they mean that it was hired sound and lighting equipment therefore can be rehired somewhere else for the rest of the tour.

Ok. Just to clarify something: We are not letting anyone in the line apart from those who have been with us all day. It's not fair to those around us whom have been there just as long so if you're not planning on rocking up early, don't expect to be let in.

Me and Heath aactually met that Ballarat driver when we were trying to get into the Lair gig at the metro. He mentioned that he smoked weed every day since he was 12 but had forgot to bring some on this tour. Maybe he found some good sh!t in adelaide!

It's gonna be lots of fun again!
